The Design
Eero Saarinen might be considered by some to be a purist when it came to his approach towards architecture and interior design. He sought the essential idea and reduced it to the most effective structural solution within an overall unity of design. When he designed his pedestal tables and Tulip Chair, Saarinen realized his ideal of formal unity: "Every significant piece of furniture from the past has a holistic structure." The Tulip is a single-legged chair made from fiberglass-reinforced resin. The sturdy dining tables are available with a white laminate, Rosewood veneer or coated marble top, supported by a heavy molded cast aluminum base coated in a tough abrasion-resistant rilsan finish. The Knoll logo is stamped into the base of the Saarinen tables and the top features a nameplate with the Saarien's signature. The Tulip Chairs also feature Saarinen's signature and the KnollStudio® logo stamped onto the underside of the base. Additionally, the Tulip Chairs and the Saarinen Dining Tables with laminate finishes are GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified??.

I have breakfast and read my newspaper sitting in a masterpiece of art... every day. I am confident that the table and chairs will last beyond my lifetime. The comfort is shocking. That?s not all good. I find myself staying at the table longer. No back ache to get me moving... no neck pain from turning to look over my shoulder. Where there were once twenty ?legs," and 24 cross braces there are now only five bases for the four chairs and table. My kitchen glows with the hopeful art that put so much cheer in my heart in the early sixties when I first viewed the furniture and architecture of Saarinen. And... yes, I think that modern art shines like a sunbeam in any environment.
?All Modern? people are sharp and sensitive. Is there a better distributor of the ?tulip series?? It seems unlikely. They did a great job of satisfying me. The delivery guys treated the furniture with care and respect. Though... the customer most likely will be much more familiar with the product than the ?white glove? guys are. So, I suggest having a plan... well a small plan. Have the space cleared and ready for them to position the upside down table top for the attachment of the base. My white glove guys did appreciate that advice. It took a full minute to do the deed... that is the only assembly required. The white glove feature is perfection in avoiding damage... and hauling away the packaging. Make sure they don?t take away some paperwork that you want. You will have to attach the included velcro disks to the chairs to keep the cushions in place... about a minute per chair.
Yes, for ten percent of the price you can get a table and chairs from ...the factory to the planet. Sometimes... maybe most of the time, the real thing is worth the cost. I would rather have nothing than insincere objects totally lacking in heart... not to mention fit and finish.
