Part of our seventh series of City Plates, this collection highlights creative capitals. Rio de Janeiro, Austin, Copenhagen, and Tel Aviv are all making a name for themselves as meccas of innovation in the arts and sciences. Each is renowned for creative expression and experimentation in the forms of dance, music, film, cuisine and technology. As culture and creativity become recognized as driving forces in this global economy, how will this inform future urban agendas?
Austin - Consistently listed as one of the fastest growing cities in the US, Austin is populated by upstart musicians, techies, filmmakers, and foodies. Declaring itself “The Live Music Capital of the World,” the city is host to both the longest-running concert music program on American television, Austin City Limits, and SXSW, the largest music festival of its kind in the world. SXSW is now considered the premier venue for showcasing music, film, and interactive design talent from around the world. The city is also home to prominent tech development centers and headquarters.
The City Plates measure 12” across. Key buildings are represented with persimmon icons, while rivers and public spaces are shown in blue and green.
