Timo Sarpaneva Finland (1926 - 2006)Timo Sarpaneva, the grandson of a blacksmith, was known for his experimentation with different materials, such as glass, porcelain, cast iron, fabric, and steel. A master craftsman of glass, porcelain, cast iron, and graphic art, he helped build the reputation of Finnish design since the 1950's. He has held a variety of positions in the world of academia and has been honored with many awards. He designed the current Iittala trademark, and his work can be seen in art galleries and design museums around the world.
The enameled Sarpaneva pot transforms the universally traditional cast iron cooking pot into a timeless design piece. Celebrating the contrasts of natural materials, the detachable wooden handle is used to lift the lid and the pot. Needless to say, Sarpaneva is as beautiful on the dinner table as it is functional in the kitchen.

CLASSIC FINNISH ELEGANCE AND STRENGTH This is probably the greatest of oven top to stove to table casseroles. Cast iron ensures the quality of cooking. The stroke of genius is the detachable wooden handle which serves to lift both lid and pot. Designed back in the 60s, it will never ever become redundant. As all cast iron products are, this is a heavy pot, but that is of minor importance. Design and use doesn't get better than Timo Sarpaneva. |

Love the newest Cast Iron Pot I like cast iron cooking appliances -- and just love this newest addition. It is great for stews and soups -- and I even used it when making a large amount of a white sauce. the heat is so very even. Cleaning is a snap with little more that a quick swish with a sponge. |
