Modern Designers

Born in Milan in 1920, Anna Castelli Ferrieri achieved enduring success within a male-dominated profession with innovative and ebullient designs. Originally trained in architecture at the Milan Polytechnic Institute, she started designing for Kartell, founded by husband Giulio Castelli, in 1966. As art consultant and art director for Kartell, she played a critical role in bringing a number of talented designers to the company. As a designer she won numerous awards, including the Compasso d'Oro, for her distinctive and useful designs, which still remain popular decades after their introduction.
