Born in Curitiba, Brazil, Mauricio moved to Toronto to pursue a degree at the Ontario College of Art and Design. During school, he competed in several international competitions, won awards and had his thesis project featured in Azure's magazine DESIGNLINES Toronto. After his studies he went on to collaborate with Canadian design collective Motherbrand, exhibit at Beaver Tales: Canadian Art and Design exhibition at The University of Toronto Art Centre and participate in many international design workshops led by internationally acclaimed designers such as the Campana Brothers, Héctor Serrano, Raw-Edges and Patricia Urquiola. Dabbling in fashion, Mauricio worked under Canadian design veteran, Joeffer Caoc, before moving to his current role as Product Designer at Umbra. Mauricio currently holds the position of Creative Lead at Umbra.The Casa tissue box cover cleverly disguises the less-then-attractive paper boxes of most facial tissues. Constructed of easy-to-clean molded polypropylene in a range of hip colors, the house-shaped cover dispenses each tissue through its "chimney," like a whimsical puff of smoke.
