The philosophy behind Terzani USA’s captivating collection of sculptural luminaires is effortlessly summed up by a single phrase: tutto e' luce, everything is light. It’s the inspiration that emerges from a world of objects—such as a name, a flower, a jewel or a passion. It’s the animating force that defines the personality and tenor of a room. It’s a laboratory—Terzani Lab, where artisan traditions fuse with advanced technologies, to create and produce daring designs that challenge conventional forms of illumination.

In the 1970s, when Sergio Terzani founded his eponymous company, it was a small family workshop that crafted lamps of wood, iron and Murano glass in the archetypal Tuscan tradition. From his base in Florence, Italy, he added a contemporary twist to his designs and transformed the company into an international brand. Fast-forward to Paris, 1985, when Sergio met Jean François Crochet, a Parisian designer of boutiques, nightclubs, restaurants and bars. The combination of Terzani’s master craftsmanship and Crochet’s design sensibility sparked the beginning of Terzani, La luce pensata.

Antinea was the first product to emerge from their partnership--a floor lamp of wrought iron, blown glass and pietra serena, a type of sandstone once favored by Brunelleschi and Michelangelo. With the advent of the new millennium, Sergio's son Nicolas Terzani joined the company, becoming the third generation to integrate traditional hand-welding by Italian master craftsmen with thoughtful design and sophisticated technologies. As president and creative director, Nicolas juxtaposes craft culture with a contemporary aesthetic for lighting that possesses an original, identifiable and irresistible character. Terzani USA is lauded for time-honored workmanship of wrought iron, carved wood and Murano glass, yet despite its seductive glances at the past, the company is perpetually engaged in the reinvention of lighting. Three main collections define the Terzani brand: the Precious, Design and Memory Projects, each representing a specific fusion of past, present and future.

The Precious Project: uniting exquisite materials, master craftsmanship and ground-breaking methodologies, this charismatic collection debuts luxurious heritage pieces that herald a new era of Italian craftsmanship. Terzani brings the starry skies indoors with Etoile, designed by Cristian Lava. This celestial pendant presents a glimmering network of nickel-plated metal shafts and twinkling lights that shimmer and shine every direction, creating a heavenly play of light and shadow.

The Design Project: while infusing time-tested traditions with futuristic flair, Terzani continually collaborates with next-wave design visionaries like Bruno Rainaldi, Prospero Rasulo, Giulio Iacchetti and Barlas Baylar. Rainaldi’s Orten’zia conveys the spirit of the Design Project, counterbalancing clean shapes with highly decorative, meticulous detail. A series of suspended and freestanding spheres and hemispheres adorned with hand-soldered “petals” in nickel, gold or silver plate, Orten’zia, immerses a room with fantastical floral radiance. Drawing upon a wealth of experience, respect for tradition and unadulterated spunk, the Mizu collection expresses pure Design artistry, with 24% lead crystal spheres resembling drops of water, casting luminescent reflections that ebb and flow with each shift of a viewer's perspective.

The Memory Project: informed by centuries of Italian craftsmanship, this collection unites prized materials, the artisanal traditions of wrought iron, wood and scavo glass with cutting-edge technology to create luxurious pieces. Crochet designed each of the lighting-sculpture families in the Memory collection, including the exuberant Antinea and the minimalist Solune, a symphony of handblown glass, metal and winged elements, accented by elegant gold leaf, hand-waxed rust and satin nickel finishes.
