Srdjan Simic was born in 1975 in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia. Growing up, he always had a strong influence and support in design and art from his father, an esteemed professor of structural engineering in architecture, and his mother, a meticulous domestic craftswoman. Even when he was very young, a sketchbook was never far from his reach. He graduated from the High School for Applied Arts, with emphasis in graphic design. In 1992, a raging civil war forced him to leave his home country, and he spent the next four years seeking refuge in the countries of Western Europe.
In 1996, Srdjan moved to the United States, where he developed a strong interest and passion for functional objects, primarily furniture. He received his Bachelor degree in Furniture Design from San Diego State University, under Wendy Maruyama.
Working as a high end custom furniture / product designer and builder over the next several years, he honed his craftsmanship and structural / mechanical understanding. Together with his wife Dara, Srdjan owns and operates Studio Simic, a multi-disciplinary design studio focusing on product interior design.
