An honors graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Rico Espinet started as a sculptor. His interest in objects soon evolved to installations in which the placement of the sculpture became as important as the objects themselves. Lighting was an integral part of these installations, defining space and heightening the overall experience. Rico Espinet features lamps and fixtures for Robert Abbey Lighting, Inc. that couples perspicuous line and warm, often atmospheric light into collections that affirm their environment. Drawing from his background in sculpture, architecture, and a fascination with the beauty of mundane objects, Rico Espinet's lighting is rooted in a generous vocabulary of form. Although Rico Espinet continues to extend his collection, his first designs are still classics. The Monk Lamp, originally fashioned with a microphone base and plumbing pipe, was a homemade reading lamp Espinet had made for himself. When a photo shoot by Todd Eberle of Espinet’s studio landed the lamp in both a House & Garden article and a Hunter Douglas ad campaign, Robert Abbey invited him to design a line to manufacture. The Scribe Lamp, influenced by the Monk Lamp was his first design for Robert Abbey Lighting, Inc.

The lamp is built well and is exactly as described on the web site. It was easy to put together and provides exactly the look and lighting quality we needed.

I looked for a torchiere-style floor lamp that wasn't heinous or super-traditional for a while before I found this one. Was hoping for something modern but not wacky, and this was it. After I bought the first one I ended up buying a second one for another room b/c I liked it so much. The nickel finish is lovely, and the light it gives off is nice. I love that it's dimmable as well. Highly recommend!
Good Quality and Looks Great!

This a very sturdy and easy to assemble lamp. We purchased it for our office lobby to go with our modern furniture, and while it is a bit on the pricier side, I looked long and hard and didn't find a better quality lamp for the price. I'd buy this lamp again without hesitation.
Love this Lamp!

This lamp has a nice clean look, fits well into a small space and gives off an amazing amount of light. The dimmer switch allow you to control the amount of light, but it is capable of brightening an entire room. It gives off a beautiful white ambient light. Beautiful lamp. We are getting a second one because we like it so much.

Great lamp with dimmer. Understated, elegant and sophisticated. Has a small footprint and looks fabulous with a modern decor. Adjustable illumination - perfect for dining room, living room or office areas. This product matches the website description. Was love at first sight... Highly recommended for looks and good value. I couldn't be happier with this purchase!

I absolutely LOVE this torchiere, and will be getting 2 more--one for a corner over our huge comfy reading chair in the living room, and one for the reading chair in our bedroom. This one is also in the living room, in the corner behind the sectional where the two sofas join to form the perpendicular. I had looked at hundreds of lamps--we just redid our living room, and it is a very understated, sleek, but modern elegant look. Most lamps were too obtrusive, or had the switch on the floor or were just not right. This torchiere: PERFECT!
Solid, Great Light

I am very pleased with the quality of the product, and its look. It does fit in beautifully in my living room and compliments the rest of the furniture. I also appreciate the modest globe size and the decent dimmer. Highly recommended.
Great Source of Light

This lamp provides ample light to brighten two rooms (i.e., my office and living room). It does show fingerprints easily and does not take energy efficient bulbs well (e.g., they tend to strobe when using the dimmer).
All I wanted and more
Marilyn from Columbus, OH– Verified Buyer
I was thrilled with this lightlamp. I needed a good-looking source of variable light off in a corner of my living room that was filled with shadows. And this torchiere is perfect. It's clear even from a distance that's it's a high-quality product and the knob turns the light (a 150-watt incandescent bulb) from dim mood-lighting to enough illumination to read or even sew by from some distance away. AlI could have asked for!

Very good quality lamp, extremely sturdy and quite heavy. Looks elegant in the bedroom and dimner switch is great. Has nice long cord. Difficult to unpack and some plastic was stuck between the base and the pole, wasn't able to get it out.
