Meet the Designer

Quinze & Milan Pilot Bar Stool

The design of the stool is based on traditional archetypes, their basic simplicity in form and function. The organically shaped seat is supported by tapered legs made of oiled European oak. The seat itself is generously proportioned for comport, its material tactile and contemporary. The ends of the legs are threaded and screwed into the seat, a connection that is both simple and sophisticated given the two very different materials of the joint.

A nice design

helen from Rowland Heights, CA– Verified Buyer

It is easy to assemble. Light weight. Stable. But the textured top surface is a little hard to clean, especially the white ones. Overall, we really like this stool.

About the Designer

Patrick Rampelotto & Fritz Pernkopf

Patrick Rampelotto was born in 1978 in Vipiteno. He studied law at the Leopold Franzens Universität Innsbruck and later Industria Design with Borek Sipek and Ross Lovegrove at the University of applied arts in Vienna. After his graduation he worked as a furniture and product designer for EOOS Design in Vienna. In 2009 he founded his own Studio. His work is present in several private and public collections. Listening to Patrick Rampelotto talk about his ideas and projects, about progress in the development of forms or in the collaboration with craftspeople, his enthusiasm with his work leaves no doubt that he is on the right way. Born in 1978 in Vipiteno, South Tyrol, he initially studied law to switch to Industrial Design at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna, in 2000. During his studies, that he completed in 2006, he was preoccupied with the materials glass, silicone and felt, with the combination of traditional crafts and hi-tech-production methods and with, amongst others, the writing of the French anthropologist and ethnologist Claude Lévi-Strauss. In Lévi-Strauss' “The savage mind“ he encountered the term bricolage, which remains until today – after many independent design- and exhibition projects, to briefly sum up the years since graduation – an important intellectual impulse.

About the Manufacturer

Created by Arne Quinze in collaboration with guest designers from various disciplines, the Quinze and Milan collection goes beyond furniture design. The products prompt customers to spin tales, to dream and to shape a reality all their own. They encompass parts of a whole rather than existing as solitary objects. The unique pieces exude energy and push the envelope of design.

Today furniture by Quinze & Milan can be found in the interiors of some of the most emblematic buildings of the past decade, such as Rem Koolhass’ Public Library in Seattle, while Quinze also designs for other leading brands such as Swarovski, Dark and Moroso. From the outset, Quinze & Milan used the slogan Creators of Atmosphere: a piece of furniture was not an aim in itself but stood for a life style that challenged the reigning minimalism: wild and sexy, carefree and fun, loud and outrageous.

Not only does Quinze and Milan produce furniture at their in-house factory, but they work in close collaboration with specialized manufacturers that makes use of Quinze and Milan’s proprietary equipment when producing designs. As a result, quality products are produced that have great value and the added advantage of flexibility.
