Katkabin Outdoor Cat Shelter from Suisun City, CA on 12/13/2010 – Verified Buyer
I bought this shelter for a FeLV and FIV positive stray cat in my neighborhood, who I feed and take care of, because I couldn't bring him indoors without exposing my own cats to his illnesses. He only used the shelter when it rained, which was why I purchased it to begin with. This shelter has several good points: 1) Lightweight. 2) No assembly required. 3) Easily cleaned. 4) Not as expensive as some wooden cat shelters. On the other hand, there are several drawbacks to this type of shelter, especially for use with completely outdoor cats: 1) No windbreak, unless used with the door, which none of my outdoor cats liked. 2) Does not come with insulation, so this shelter isn't good for very cold weather conditions, unless you purchase the additional winter warmer. 3) The pad that comes with the shelter will get dirty and wet very easily, so it isn't suitable for use with true feral cats, even though it is washable. 4) The door hangs up sometimes if you use straw for bedding material, like I did, because straw still insulates when it is wet, unlike fabric or foam insulation. In summary, if you want a lightweight, simple shelter for occasional use by a single cat, this shelter will suffice. If you want to provide a cold weather shelter for a feral cat, you would be better off checking the Internet for several inexpensive, do-it-yourself ideas for shelters.

Love that product came in well protected box, all put together , just had to put the door in place, Took a few days for the cats to get used to it, but now they take turns and like the fact that they can see through the door... It is really nice , Has a soft sleeping pad in side... my cats give it 5 stars!

KatKabin by Brinsea from Washington, DC on 12/11/2013 – Verified Buyer
My original plan to purchase this product for one the feral cats that I am feeding. But my own cat loves the katKabin so much, he moved himself into the KatKabin right away. I guess, I will probably have to order another one for the outdoor cat. I will give it a 5-star rating.

My adopted outdoor cats used the KatKabin as soon as I put it on the porch. I had a little trouble putting the doors on. I even left one off. All I all a very good purchase.

Cat still not too sure this is good home from Sacramento, CA on 09/19/2010 – Verified Buyer
[...] totally assembled. Color as chosen. No complaints. Cat not too certain this is a good "home". The real value will be tested once weather changes and gets colder and wet. For now I'm tossing in yummy treats from time to time and the cat enters and exits the KatKabin without any problems. I see the flap doesn't seal and the overhang is shallow, so blowing rain could be a problem. I set it under the eaves of the house near the foundation to provide more shelter. A bit pricey but will be priceless to keep this outdoor kitty warm and safe IF he accepts it. Stay tuned!

Questions & Answers

"Hello. We live in Florida where it gets quite hot and I was looking at this as a shelter for a stray cat. My concern is the heat in FL. It would be in the shade, which still could reach 90 degrees on a really hot day. Please advice." — Simone
"Hello Simone, this is specifically developed to withstand the most extremes of temperatures from heat to cold. With the specialty design, it should handle the heat just fine."
— Lee Ann from Wayfair
"Hi, does this item have mounting holes?" — Ranee
