Barcelona – born, London-based Cristian Zuzunaga studied Typo / Graphic Design at the London College of Communcation followed by an MA in Communication Art & Design at the Royal College of Art in London. His final degree show was a collaboration with a menswear designer based on the pixel - the icon of our time - and super modern Architecture. Since 2004, Cristian Zuzunaga has been looking at the city as a metaphor, a living organism that evolves and changes in a way that reflects our own evolution. Using architecture and the way global cities such as Barcelona, London, New York or Shanghai are constructed inspires and gives form to his unique visual vocabulary. He uses a combination of graphic design with letterpress and screen-printing techniques to create colorful visual landscapes. His clients include Kvadrat, Ligne Roset, Christophe Delcourt, Tate Gallery and Nanimarquina. The graphic artist who designed this collection bases his work on the decomposition of color through pixels, a technique that has been applied to the design of sofas, cushions, shirts… Now he embodies his special vision in these two rugs made from hand-knotted wool, one in vibrant colors, the other in more gentle tones. Both rugs have their source in photographic enlargement, giving the pieces a digital and technological look. Depending on the light or time of day, a glance captures the random union of one part of the 26 colors that make up the rug, always creating surprising groupings that are surprising to the eye; really shocking optical effects.
