Starting in 1921, Jacobsen worked in the textile industry. In 1934 he founded Luxo ASA, former Jac. Jacobsen A / S, a Norwegian industrial group. It was originally a marketing company for textile machinery. In 1937, he developed the Luxo-L1, abalanced-arm lamp. Today, the lamp is part of various exhibitions in museums around the world, as the lamp is being seen as an example for classic lamp design. The L1 construction principle is based on the Anglepoise lamp, developed by George Carwardine in 1933. Jac Jacobsen lived to be 95 years old and was active in the company until his last days.

I can't have too many of these lamps and I found the best price here.

I owned the original L-1 for many years and was always very satisfied with the look and performance. This L-1 is modernized for use with today's more efficient bulbs and so does not get as hot as hot. The proportion of the shade is a little different and the switch is mounted on the side rather than on top. Generally i'm a design purest, but I think in general it's an improvement on the classic.
Great work light

I love this lamp. I have been looking for a task lamp for a long time and finally decided on the luxo. It is a beautiful design and I love the articulating head and long arm. It is great to sew and paint under, as well as do less fun "office" things. Very happy with my purchase!
Jessica from Philadelphia, PA– Verified Buyer
This light is perfect for my desk. Takes up so little space and the arm stands firm and doesn't sag or fall down like some cheapie versions. The bulb it comes with takes a bit to warm up since its a cfl but it works great. Glad I spent a little more on this fixture than on some other "architect's lamp."
Great Utilitarian Lamp

Perfect as a drawing table lamp. Classic design, except the bulb portion is a little large.
I finally found you!!!!

If you're reading this review then you've probably been doing as much searching for a lamp like this as I did. These are extremely hard to find. This is a great quality lamp, nice looking, and the price was fairly good as well. I was definitely pleased to find it on this site. And I have to add the customer service was excellent. I really appreciated the call back to see how well I liked the lamp. I mean, who does that anymore
Helene from Gatineau, QC– Verified Buyer
Light is great, design excellent. I had to learn how to fixe the best position because on my drawing table, it has the tendancy to move. But I learn, and now its just perfect.
If you dont like it, return it.
Craig from Walnut Creek, CA– Verified Buyer
It works like it's support to. If you're on the fence, just try it out. If you don't like it, return it. Take some time and return it if you don't like. It's better to see it for yourself than sit there and wonder for days and days.
