About the Designer
Erel, Elran, Ben Natan

Yael Erel is operating on three parallel tracks within design. Her interest in the sensorial properties of light guides the design and fabrication of light fixtures and installations. Her passion toward space and architecture led her to practice as an architect in New York and Israel. In addition, she has been deeply immersed in teaching architecture since 2004. Graduated with honors from The Cooper Union School of Architecture where she received the Irma Giustino Weiss Prize for creative achievement. Before co-founding New York based YEStudio with lighting designer Avner Ben Natan, she worked for the award-winning firm Diane Lewis Architect and ROART Inc. Erel Completed architectural projects both in Israel and NYC, and together with lighting designer Avner Ben Natan has been developing light fixtures and installations. Erel was a visiting architecture design critic at Harvard GSD, she has taught Architecture Design Studio at Columbia University and The Cooper Union, and has been teaching Architecture design at Pratt institute since 2004, where received a faculty development grant to develop environmental lighting fixtures. Her work has been exhibited at the Krakow Biennial, Pratt Institute Gallery and other NYC galleries. She has lectured at The Bronfman Center and The City College School of Architecture among others. Sharan Elran is a ceramic artist who explores the physicality of clay and porcelain with an attempt to push them to their extreme and expose their nature through interaction with elements and forces such as light or gravity. Sharan received an MFA from Carnbrook Art Academy and holds a B.Sc. in physics and computer science. He is engaged both in the mathematical and material aspects of his craft. His work was exhibited in Cranbrook Art Museum's "Mercedes-Benz Financial Services-ART" exhibition, as well as the Gallery Mc New York, Gloria Kennedy Gallery and The Public Theater in New York, among others. Avner Ben Natan has been working with light as material since the early 90's in his work as a lighting designer in films and television. After he moved to New York, he began to extend the work with light into the design of light fixtures and environments for art and dance installations, residential and commercial projects. A versatile artist, Ben Natan has also been writing poetry and prose. After completing a collection of short stories, he started to compose and sing his own poetry and has developed one of his short stories into a screenplay. Received a BA in Sociology and Anthropology from Tel Aviv University.

Using the material quality of very thin porcelain that allows light to shine through it, the porcelain pyramids pendant gives an amber tone to the color of the light and makes it warmer, soft and diffused. The voids between the elements draws a structure of lights and shades in the space around. Includes a white braided cord, a matching clay ceiling plate and the required hardware to connect the pendant to an electrical box. All pieces are hand made and slightly vary in form and size.
