Ferrucio Laviani Ferrucio Laviani is part of a generation of young Italian designers who came to prominence in the early 90's when the Memphis movement made its mark on international design. Born in 1960, Laviani studied both architecture and design in Milan, graduating with a degree in architecture in 1986. Soon thereafter, he took part in the "12 Newcomers" Memphis collection in 1986 and the "Living on Earth" Memphis collection in 1987, launching his career with ties to the colorful and idiosyncratic design movement. Laviani went on to design whimsical, colorful furniture and objects that remind us of their exuberant and expressive mission. Laviani's Orbital Lamp of 1991, perhaps his best known design, used color-saturated biomorphic shapes for the glass shades, and an angular, tapering metal base, bringing to mind the organic emphasis and optimism of the '50s, while his Max table combines multi-use practicality with his signature curvilinear forms. Ferruccio Laviani marks the transition between his generation and those before him through his collaborations with his elders and mentors. He's worked with Kartell, Foscarini, Achille Castiglioni, and Ettore Sottsass. Along with his talented colleagues, Laviani exemplifies the best of Italian design, present and future.
Designed by Ferruccio Laviani, the Toobe Lamp has the distinction of being the first floor lamp for Kartell. Its origins lie in the notion that a single PMMA extruded tube could function as either a table lamp or a floor lamp, depending on the length. Toobe is also the first Kartell product to bear color fading, which is achieved through innovative coloring technology and permits light to be diffused within the cylinder. Available in five transparent color options as either a table lamp or a floor lamp, the line of the Toobe is clean and modern, making it easy to match with other furnishings.| Item: | Dimensions: | Weight: |

Color and simplicity! I love the subtle addition of color and simplicity to our small guest bedroom. The color does not give off a strong blue color when the light is on. So, you get the blue look and good lighting at the same time. |

Perfect Lamp for drama in the corner Bought the white/crystal version and the tube completely disappears at night and looks like the light source floats in the air supported by a curly-q cord. Put it on a timer and used a 25 watt bulb which is perfect for some corner glow and still lights up half a 25x18 room so that there is some warmth when you enter the room. |

A Powerful Statement These lamps are beautiful. I got the floor lamps, one blue and one red (in different rooms). The light they create is soft. It wouldn't work as the only source of illumination but is a great for adding to light and as an accent piece. My one complaint is that the base of one lamp doesn't stay on well so moving it is a bit of a hassle, but generally these are fantastic stylish additions to our home decor. |

Modern, Stylish, Beautiful Looks great in both the living room and bedroom. (I have one in each.) Light is diffuse and not too overpowering. The color of the lamp provides a unique benefit and gives the lamp and its light a lot of character. There also is a clear option if you want a more neutral light source. Everybody always comments on it whenever first entering the room. |
