Jongerius, Hella
Hella Jongerius Highly respected Dutch designer Hella Jongerius (1963) got a later than average start in her career when she decided to go back to school in her late twenties. A graduate of the Eindhoven Design Academy, where she has also taught since 1998, she started her own design company, Jongeriuslab, in 1993. Jongarius has exhibited work at the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Design Museum in London, and Galerie KREO in Paris.

Jongerius has designed for Maharam in New York and Royal Tichelaar Makkum in the Netherlands, as well as Vitra, Droog, and IKEA. She combines ancient craft techniques and the latest high-tech fiberglass until they yield their ultimate potential.

Jongerius' work comments on the field of design, and her products share a common mentality: the combination of materials, history, and archetypes, and the transformation from old to new. At first her designs look familiar and simple, but behind that simplicity lurks unusual creativity and innovation.
