About the Designer
Isamu Noguchi Isamu Noguchi United States (1904 - 1988)

Isamu Noguchi, born in 1904 in Los Angeles to the Japanese poet Yone Noguchi and the American writer Leonie Gilmour, studied at Columbia University and the Leonardo da Vinci Art School. He subsequently established his first independent studio and received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1927. He then worked as an assistant to Constantin Brancusi in Paris and presented his first solo exhibition in New York. He studied brush drawing in China and worked with ceramics under Jinmatsu Uno in Japan. His experiences living and working in different cultural circles are reflected in his work as an artist. Isamu Noguchi is considered a universal talent with a creative oeuvre that went beyond sculpture to encompass stage sets, furniture, lighting, interiors as well as outdoor plazas and gardens. His sculptural style is indebted to a vocabulary of organic forms and exerted a sustained influence on the design of the 1950s. “My father, Yone Noguchi, is Japanese and has long been known as an interpreter of the East to the West, through poetry. I wish to fulfill my heritage”, he wrote in his proposal for a Guggenheim Fellowship. Isamu Noguchi died in New York in 1988.

The Noguchi Rudder table shares a similar top shape of the well-known glass Noguchi table designed by Sculptor Isamu Noguchi.

A beautiful version

from Helena, MT– Verified Buyer– Top 1000 Reviewer

This is such an amazing version of the classic noguchi table. its gorgeous, the walnut veneer as with all herman miller products ins incredible. The assembly is super easy, maybe 10 minutes at the most and you have a perfect table that is sturdy and ready to be lived with.

Beautiful table, easy purchase

 from Houston, TX– Verified Buyer

The table looks great and works perfectly in the space we're using it for (a living room in an open space area that flows into the dining area). Also, we have two toddlers, and the material holds up well to the wear and tear two little boys expose it to.

love it

 from Morrisville, NC– Verified Buyer

I so badly did NOT want the glass Noguchi that everyone has (including my entire in-law family). Plus, we have a little baby. We have asleep modern sectional, and this is perfect. It's not too short, it's easy to move around to make more space for the baby to play, and she loves to cruise around it. This was our choice after a long, arduous search for the perfect table, and it was worth every penny. LOVE IT!

a new modern classic

from Orange County, CA– Verified Buyer

A visually lighter and less formal alternative to the iconic lacquer and glass Noguchi table, the Rudder table is unexpected and playful. The organic forms and walnut finish add warmth in the context of a midcentury aesthetic- highly recommended for modern interiors.

Terrific and just right for my space!

from Deerfield Beach, FL– Verified Buyer

This table is related to Noguchi's more commonly known glass top table. The table top is the same shape. The legs are adorable, and it has a real presence in the room. I have a 50s style sofa that is curved. This sits in the curve perfectly.

It was also very easy to assemble, is very well built and sturdy, in addition to being stylish.
