About the Designer

David Podsiadlo

David studied Industrial Design before contributing to a number of architectural and interior design firms in Toronto. In 1999 he co-founded Stylegarage in the city's West Queen West neighborhood, which served as a retail outlet for his furniture designs, emphasizing raw materials, clean lines, and basic forms. After quickly gaining local notoriety for his contemporary, unfussy approach to furniture, David and his partners launched Gus* in 2001, taking his designs to a North American market and earning the "Best New Collection" distinction at the 2001 International Gift Fair in Manhattan. Collecting accolades ever since, David continues to serve as partner and Lead Designer at Gus*

Using roto-molded plastic, Gus* has created a seamless cube with endless uses. A stool, an end table or nightstand, or an eye-catching lamp, the Lightbox can add a sculptural glow to any space large enough for an eighteen inch cube.

It really is sturdy enough for seating and also serves as a side table to set a drink on. I put a very low (40) watt bulb inside as I wanted ambiant lighting. p.s. The LUX cube has no on/off switch, so you have to plug it in and remove the plug whenever you use it. At least the Gus Modern has a button to press. It looks great in my kids' bedroom! I found it for half off ([$])on this site when it was over $300 everywhere else. It's awesome. I use it next to my Poang chair as a side table and ambient light. The entire cube glows softly when it's lit up, providing a warm and comfortable ambient light. The height is just right for a side table, but it also works well as a chair, ottoman, or lamp.
