About the Designers
Enrico Franzolini Enrico Franzolini Italy (1952 - )

Born in Udine in 1952. He studied in Florence and graduated in architecture at the University of Venice. In 1972 he was invited to the 36th Biennale Exhibition of decorative arts in Venice, exhibiting two objects produced by the Livio Seguso glass-manufactory in Murano. In 1978 his first personal exhibition at Plurima Gallery in Udine marked the beginning of his interest in minimal architecture. At the same time however he became interested in architecture and interior and product design. He has worked with several of the most important furniture companies such as Accademia, Alias, Cappellini, Crassevig, Gervasoni, Knoll International, Montina, Moroso and Pallucco.

Vicente Garcia Jimenez Vicente Garcia Jimenez Spain (1978 - 2006)

He was born in Valencia (Spain) in 1978. Graduated in Industrial Design at the faculty of Castellon de la Plana, he moved towards Barcelona where he collaborated with Santa and Cole. A great need of developing his formal and creative skills brings him in Milan, whence, after brief professional experiences, he moved towards Udine. There he set up his Studio that collaborates with a lot of companies, developing lighting products, furniture and exhibitions' settings.

The apparently casual pattern with which the composition of irregular planes creates a volume around the light source, determines the dynamic character of Big Bang's exuberant personality. A powerfully structural luminous body characterised by a play of shadow and light, with great visual impact yet airy in appearance, it is ideal for personalizing rooms in any style, even when used alone. It provides an intense, vivid and direct light.

Pictures don't do this lamp justice

 from Scottsdale, AZ– Verified Buyer

As the title states, pictures of the lamp online do not do it justice. Once installed, in the proper environment, this lamp is amazing. Great for placing in living or dining rooms. Mine is in the living room and it becomes a focal point & an instant conversation piece. It's amazing how well the lamp blends in, yet at the time stands out. I think this is partly because I purchased the all white version. The red version would just pop at all times...a bit too much for me, however, in the proper environment it would be great too.

The installation was fairly straight forward. Not fast though. You have to take the time to set it up correctly. Foscarini did a good job with the build of this lamp. They thought ahead when building the lamp, considering people's needs for adjustments. The way the Big Bang allows you to move/tip the pennant from the suspension cables is genius. It's great because once the light was installed I was able to look at it from different angles and then make adjustments (tip this end up, that end down...move it a little this way, etc.).

I know I've read some reviewers comments about the panels showing the little letters once piecing them together, however this isn't the case for me. Perhaps older models had the letters (A, B, C, D, etc.) in different locations or different colors, but once the panels were assembled correctly, the letters are not visible.

For the Big Bang I chose to go with a 150 watt bulb, rather than the 200 watt max bulb listed in the manual. The 150 watt has plenty of brightness for my needs & setting. In fact, I also set up the lamp with a dimmer switch, and usually only turn the up about 75%. I like the warm/soft glow, as it allows you to see more of the panels' shadows.

All in all, this is a fantastic lamp! It's a work of art that just happens to be functional by illuminating your living area. If you're a fan of modern lighting, and your decor matches, this is a wonderful piece.

Too plasticky

 from Phoenix,AZ– Verified Buyer

It's a pretty cool looking chandelier, but looks much more hard, edgy, and plasticky than the pictures.

Not good....says it all

 from Dallas, TX– Verified Buyer

Purchased the chandelier from the clearance center but the light that arrived was the wall light. The light is constructed of numerous white translucent panels attached to a main panel.[...] The panels and therefore the light were far cheaper looking in person than in pics.

Manufacturer Details
Light is a direct many-layered language. Foscarini interprets the forms and functions of light in various ways, without ever losing sight of its most important purpose - lighting up the rooms of your life. The Foscarini lighting collection brings together objects that express strong ideas with a special character of their own. Ideas are transformed into a tangible reality thanks to the contribution of leading personalities from the world of design. Foscarini lights up their creativity and guides their proposals.

The Foscarini keynote is research, into forms and materials, as well as ideas. Established in 1981 in Venice, Foscarini started out by exploring the opportunities offered by Murano glass. The management assures brand identity and coherence by careful conservation of its Murano heritage, whilst being ever ready to consider new objectives and to exercise its rare capacity for talent scouting.

The company works with both established designers who've created new trends and with younger, emerging exponents of alternative styles and approaches. This makes for a highly original catalogue and one of the most varied in the sector. Over the years, the range of materials used has expanded to include satin-finished glass, polyethylene, wood and aluminium, as well as patented materials such as an exclusive textured glass-tissue and carbone fibre composite.
