He remembers having spent his childhood under his father's drawing tables, passing hours stitching, cutting, gluing and grinding, disassembling bicycles, motorbikes and other objects. Endless hours, an entire life spent dismantling and reassembling anything that fell into his hands, reconstructing his surrounding world. He continues to shake the traditions and culture of the world's major cities, with the interior design of the restaurant at Hong Kong's Peninsula Hotel (1994), the Teatron in Mexico (1995), the Delano Hotel a Miami (1995), the Modrian in Los Angeles (1996), the Asia de Cuba restaurant in New York (1997), as well as an entire series of ongoing projects in London and elsewhere. His skill lies in being able to transform instantly the object of the commission into a place filled with charm, pleasure and encounters. He tirelessly modifies everyday life, exalting the deepest roots of existence in his changes. His increasing fascination with life has now led him to create clothes, underwear, footwear, glasses, food, and always with the conviction that his design respects nature and the future of humankind. In the exhibits of museums all around the world, in Paris, New York, Munich, London, Chicago, Kyoto and Barcelona, his work is considered to be that of a master. He has received numerous prizes and awards: designer of the year, the Oscar de luminaire (1980), the title of Officier des Artes et des Lettres (1985), Compasso d'Oro ADI (2001), Show Boats in Munich (2003), and many others.

Good chairs worth the money

We debated spending the money on these vrs some of the other knock offs out there. Spend a few moments on the emeco website and learn about the product and how it's made. We ordered ours without seat cushion and they are fine in terms of comfort. The welds are clean and lines are perfect. The got to my house in 2 days. The only thing to keep in mind is that the aluminum is a different color than stainless steel and the brushed aluminum is somewhat porous so you have to work at cleaning it

I purchased three Emeco stools for a small beach house we're renovating. They add an industrial feel without being over-the-top modern. I also love that they are only 14, so I can have three at my small island. Best part is the quality of craftsmanship and they're made in USA!!

My new Emeco Counter Stool is very good quality and is being enjoyed by the entire family. I have a chronic condition and am unable to stand for long periods of time. This made it difficult to prepare fresh vegetables for soups, stews, and just plain crunching on. I purchased this stool to be able to sit to prepare the food items for cooking. The stool I was looking for was to be functional, sturdy, and match the newly remodeled kitchen. My new refrigerator and ovens, sinks, and counter top appliances are brushed stainless or aluminum and these brushed stools do just the trick. I was impressed at how lightweight they are yet very sturdy and functional as a work tool. If you are looking for an attractive work stool this is just the thing. I anticipate it will hold up for a long time and will quickly become a work tool that you cant understand how you got along without it in your kitchen. It is a bit more pricey than other aluminum of stainless steel stools available but I believe it is a premium article that will be worth its cost and continue to be of use and durable for many years to come.

My Emeco chairs -- 6 years old -- might be new. Like them, the newly-bought counter stools offer iconic design, character in manufacturing, awesome lightness and comfort. Hard to improve.

These are fantastic! My husband and I even found the same stools in the Fenway suites while taking a tour.
Emeco (The Electric Machine and Equipment Co.) was founded in 1944 by Wilton C. Dinges. Emeco's manufacturing process is the result of a collaboration with ALCOA to develop a seaworthy chair for military use. ALCOA's scientists and Navy engineers consulted with Emeco to produce the chairs in the Hanover, PA workshops and they're still made there today. Emeco's founder, Wilton C. Dinges, was a master tool and die maker, with an engineering background. His engineering ability was complemented by an appreciation for sculpture, specifically Rodin. He portrayed these two passions in an advertising campaign which expressed his original vision: the Emeco chair as a one piece sculptured masterwork. Today Emeco is led by CEO Gregg Buchbinder who sums up their vision as: design plus craftsmanship.
