The Design

The Cognita Storage Bench is a highly functional piece for the home and office alike. As a sleek accent bench, its design is able to complement both classic and contemporary interiors. It contains completely hidden storage space for all types of clutter, including loose files, small office supplies, linens, personal accessories and more, making the Cognita truly a resting place for both people and their things.

The Eames Sofa Compact's striking profile and crisp, light scale evolved from a built-in sofa that Charles and Ray Eames designed for the living room of their Pacific Palisades home. Knowing this makes the name "compact" seem less curious for a sofa that's over 6 feet long and provides such comfortable support from shoulders to knees. The success of the design is attested by the fact that this sofa has been in continuous production since 1954.

In the early 1940s, when Charles Eames was working on MGM set designs, he would return to the small apartment where he and his wife, Ray, experimented with wood-molding techniques that would have profound effects on the design world. Their discoveries led to a commission from the U.S. Navy in 1942 to develop plywood splints, stretchers, and glider shells molded under heat and pressure. After World War II, they adapted the technology to create inexpensive, high-quality chairs that could be mass-produced. The resulting Eames Molded Plywood Lounge Chair is now in the permanent collection of New York's Museum of Modern Art.

Ray Eames drew on her training as a sculptor to design a new kind of occasional piece for the lobby of the Time-Life Building in New York City. Eames Walnut Stools became her favorite seats and were liberally scattered about the Charles and Ray Eames home in Pacific Palisades.

White Glove Gold Additional Information:

This item will be delivered by a white glove freight carrier. White glove carriers are different from common carriers in that they provide the customer with many benefits throughout the delivery process. Unlike common carriers, a white glove delivery team consists of at least two people so you will not be burdened with helping the driver carry your order from the back of the truck to your home.

Important note: Once your order arrives in your area, a representative from the white glove carrier will call you to arrange a 4 hour window for delivery. You MUST inspect your package at the time of delivery. If the product has any damage, or if there is any reason for you to be at all concerned about damage, please write "PRODUCT DAMAGED" clearly on the sheet that they ask you to sign. This simply insures that if there is any damage, it will be easy to take care of the problem.

White Glove Gold
Gold service level provides two-man delivery to inside your residence to the room you choose. This service includes carrying the product up two flights of stairs from the building threshold (4-15 steps = 1 flight). If you need the product moved up additional flights please contact us*. Once the product is in the room you desire, the shipper will unpack the product and provide basic setup that requires no tools (i.e. will set pieces next to each other, or on top of each other). The shipper will also remove and dispose of all packaging.

White Glove Platinum
Platinum service level provides two-man delivery to inside your residence to the room you choose. This service includes carrying the product up two flights of stairs from the building threshold (4-15 steps = 1 flight). If you need the product moved up additional flights please contact us*. Once the product is in the room you desire, the shipper will unpack the product and provide light setup that requires basic tools (i.e. pieces will be screwed or bolted together, set pieces next to each other, or on top of each other). The shipper will also remove and dispose of all packaging.

*In all cases the shipper will not hookup any electrical or component wires. Having items carried up more than 25 steps and longer assembly periods are available as additional services which would require additional charges. Please contact us if you feel you need these services.
