To do this, simply setup the firepit and ignite on high, allowing it to "bake" the rocks for about 10 minutes. During these few minutes, maintain a safe distance while a small portion of the rock may, or may not, crack and gently pop. After 10 minutes, the rock will be cured and setup complete.|

Camp Chef Gas Fire Ring
What I wanted

This pit works well. It was just what I wanted. It could maybe heat up a little more but other than that I do like it.

I am very satisfied with the quality and value of this fire ring. It was shipped fast, arrived well packaged, and with no missing or damaged parts. I was pleasantly surprised at the overall quality and value of the accessory items that were included. (storage bag and roasting sticks) It makes a very natural feeling fire (heat factor) with zero mess and for about the same cost as it would be to use real wood. (considering the cost of ready-to-burn firewood) It is completely portable and perfect for an RV park, patiodeck, tailgating, picnic, etc. I am happy. :)

Would like to have had a variable regulator rather than fixed flow. Wind soen't fair well with low flow.

It's exact as Sold, I bought it for the BTU's and it works great. You can play around with the rocks to create "effect" and flame size. These are 1.0" to 2.0" in size. I have some smaller rocks under 1.0" that I am going to try. It's 15.0" in diameter and 4.0" high without the fold down legs that are underneath. I made a concrete table and stand for the patio and will be using this as my "fire pit" centre. Bags Great, very portable, taking it camping would be great especially with fire bans during the summer.
Lots of heat!
Jammer from Victoria, British Columbia
This was purchased to enjoy a campfire during the annual camp fire bans during camping season. This was ideal! Produces lots of heat, light and isn't too bad for propane consumption. We figured it cost about the same as a fire, when factoring the cost of purchased wood bundles vs propane. Looked a little disappointing when first lit, (only small blue flames) but once it heats up the rocks, flames get big & yellow. Had the ranger walk right up to it and say "no fires" before he realized it was gas. Tip: warm it up slowly for the first time...I had a lava rock explode, but I did have it cranked. Very satisfied with this item!
A pretty good option...

I needlessly bought a Propane regulator / hose for this and was surprised to see one included when I opened the box. (So I now have a spare) I suspect that the first time I went to use it I was in a bit too much of a hurry. The valve on the fire pit was shipped in the OPEN position. When I turned on the valve at the propane tank it immediately started flowing through fire pit. (I suspect the protective feature of regulator restricted the flow of gas to a really small flame.) The next weekend my girlfriends son used it for a party and said it worked fine. So if I would have turned it off and reset it the first time it might have had a reasonable flame. I have not really tried it since... The main purpose I got it for was support of fire where normal wood fires are not permitted.

it is a great start to your fire pit but you have to be ingenuative at coming up with a nice surround - brick , stone etc.

Purchased for family camping. Fairly heavy because of the lava rocks, but heats well and provides instant heat without smoke. Cools fairly quickly, so packing after use isn't a big deal. Certainly not like a roaring wood campfire, but no wait for heat, no smoke and no large amounts of wood necessary. I would recommend this.
