My New Favorite Thing

Richard from Watertown, MA– Verified Buyer

I don't think there's anything I'd trade my new Breville Smart Oven for. It is so fun, versatile, and effective.

Quesadillas come out perfectly crisp and toasted in only 3 minutes. Toast, English Muffins, and Bagels are amazing. I even flawlessly cooked some corn bread in here the other night.

You choose which setting you want (Toast, Bagel, Pizza, Bake, etc) and then fine tune it with darkness and number of slices settings. Then you press the button to go. In most cases it sets the cook time for you. The heating units go on and off throughout the cycle and then when it's done, your food is all ready to go.

The only minor downsides are that there's no power button -- the screen just goes off after 10 minutes of non-use. And a little bit of experimenting is necessary with the different settings. But as long as you keep your eye on it you won't burn anything.

Compact and solid Breville toaster oven

alice from San Francisco, CA– Verified Buyer

At first I couldn't decide if I should purchase this compact BOV650XL or the more expensive BOV800XL, at the end I picked the 650XL.
This is a well made toaster oven although the outside does get very hot when in use and that is a big minus therefore 4-star.

When I toast fresh bread I use 6 on the dial and the oven does get some moisture afterward and I was told by Breville Company that it is normal. Toasts get crisp and even on top and grill marks on bottom due to the rack. Haven't tried to bake cookies yet. All in all I am happy with the purchase.

If I were to purchase a toast oven again I would choose the Breville BOV800XL, because this one can accommodate 13 pizza pan(comes with the oven), magnetic auto reject rack(very helpful), back lit easy-read LCD panel(can be seen even in dark area) plus the convection feature. These extra features really worth the extra $70 over the BOV650XL.

Its smart, with a little help ...

Thomasina from Apex, NC– Verified Buyer

This oven is actually a computer, so a bit of tech savvy is required! So far, I've toasted bread and bagels and reheated lots of food. It's important to read the manual before you start, then adjust the settings based on your preferences. Patience is a must as you go through trial and error. Now that I'm familiar with the oven, I find it much more satisfying than the Cuisinart I replaced. In particular, the Breville is smartly built AND comes with a 3-pronged plug (safer than the 2-prong variety). It has a built-in timer and even counts down the time remaining for toasting, reheating, baking, etc. Singles will appreciate that this oven can easily replace a large kitchen oven ... at a lower operating cost. All-in-all, this oven is worth the cost.

Easy to clean, awkward to open

Bret from Boston, MA– Verified Buyer

I've used this oven to toast, bake, and reheat and it's done well with all tasks. The crumb tray pulls out from the bottom when the door is closed, which makes it very easy to clean without making a mess. My main criticism is that the door handle sticks out substantially so you cannot have a plate (or other object) in front of the oven when the door is open, which is challenging with limited counter space.

Great addition for quick heat ups

Phyllis from Clearwater Beach, FL– Verified Buyer

Love this toaster oven for its features. It can toast 4 slices of toast so it can also do 2 bagels. The preheat setting is a simple and easy way to heat up the leftovers. And it is perfect for my husband because of it's easy to use settings. And I love that it is a Breville - so you get quality and good looks.

Worth the money

Gina from Pleasanton, CA– Verified Buyer

This oven heats evenly and toasts consistently well. It is an expensive toaster oven, but worth the money. The only issue I've had so far is that when covering a chicken breast with foil (tenting), the chicken took far longer to cook. When baking uncovered, chicken cooks according to expected time in a conventional oven. Nice small size and super easy to use. Would buy again.

Breville Oven

Mark from Telford, PA– Verified Buyer

This is a great little oven and has performed flawlessly. Toasting is epically good and our pizza comes out perfect. One missing nice feature is when you open the door the tray is not pulled out. This is because the tray has three positions. Otherwise great purchase.

Before I bought my toaster oven I researched through CR's and read the reviews. I settled on this oven and I am very pleased with it. Less use of the oven, good, convenience and that means a lot for busy lives, quick snacks and less clean up.

We replaced our Kitchen Aid toaster over with this Breville model and are very pleased with it. It toasts and heats evenly, and is much faster than our Kitchen Aid model. It is very easy to use, and the size is perfect. We would highly recommend it.

Nice! Compact, does toast really well (and evenly)

Brent from san francisco, CA– Verified Buyer

I'd probably give it five stars, but I'd prefer to be able to turn it off (it'll fall into standby mode, but that's not as intuitive as a simple off button. Does a very nice job with toasting things, and is good for small oven things too!

About the Manufacturer

At the 1932 Melbourne Cup, Bill O’Brien and Harry Norville, decided to invest their funds into something they’d long dreamt of and started Breville Radio. The word Breville is a derivative of these founder’s names. But by the late 50’s, television had all but replaced the radio, and as such Breville’s focus turned to small appliances. To this day, Breville's products range from espresso machines and coffee makers, to blenders, toasters, grills, woks, and rice cookers. The unique combination of genuine innovation and beautiful design has resonated strongly with U.S. consumers. From New Zealand to the UK, toasted sandwiches are still affectionately called Brevilles, so much so that the term has been added to the Australian dictionary. The sandwich maker’s success was soon followed by the iconic Kitchen Wizz food processor, together with a range of high-performances.
