About the Brand

Bodum Bistro Electric Burr Grinder

The Bistro Electric Burr Grinder crushes the coffee beans between conical burrs rather than chopping them, preventing the coffee from losing its characteristic taste and aroma. By twisting the upper bean container, the variable grind settings can be adjusted from a coarse French press setting all the way down to a fine ground for espresso, depending on the brewing method or personal taste. It comes with an attractive, static-free borosilicate glass container that conveniently sits within the base of the unit to collect ground coffee during use and also features a non-slip silicone band for secure handling. It is made from borosilicate glass, steel, plastic, rubber and silicone.

Grinder that does the job

Phil from Oak Hill, VA– Verified Buyer

This is the first burr grinder that I've owned, so my analysis may be somewhat uninformed, but I was quite pleased with the Bistro. Easy to assemble, easy to use and with a modern look. The matte rubber look isn't my favorite, as it stands apart from the sea of stainless appliances in my kitchen, but the results were what I had hoped for... a rather consistent grind.

I've only ground one pound of beans thus far, so my feedback may change as the grinder gets more burn-in, but for right now it does the job.

Settings: Predominately medium, for a Cuisinart Extreme Brew (I'm not too advanced in my coffee snobbery just yet...)

Perfect for my needs

Melinda from Grand Junction, CO– Verified Buyer

I got tired of grinding my beans "in-store," (espresso grind) when the results was so inconsistent (same store, same machine, same tick mark for espresso). Nothing worse than watery espresso when the grind isn't right for the method.
This little burr grinder does the trick for my daily cafe au lait and I do think the freshly ground beans enhance the flavor.
I don't find the motor all that loud--though I've read reviews that complain about the noise.
I haven't had to grind more than a handful of beans at a time--so the 20-second-wait-5-minutes-so's-not-to-burn-out-the-motor doesn't apply to me. Seven seconds is all I need for a generously sized cafe au lait. The unit footprint is quite small, so I can keep on the counter, and fits easily under the cabinets above. Cleaning it is a bit of a challenge--removing the top burr ring and ensuring the space around the stationary grinding piece is clear of fine grinds requires patience and a brush. (Or a can of air--I'm that tempted.) All-in-all, I'm very pleased with this purchase, but I think my needs are rather modest.

Ramon from Bartlett, IL

I had purchased other units for $20-$40 on the store but never gave me consistency on the grind. They had a lot of variation which made it difficult to control the flavor.
This unit is excellent. It grinds any type of bean down to a fine grind for espresso (that what I use for most of the time). It does grind enough beans to make two double shoot of espresso in about 30 seconds. This amount might seem small but if you use for regular filter paper it will grind a larger quantity as the ground particles do not have to be as fine (this off course in the same amount of time). My family loves it, have use about a pound of coffee a week and have had this unit for 7 months.

Stylish and beautifully crafted coffee grinder

Joan from Stuart, FL– Verified Buyer

I chose this coffee grinder because of the wide variety of grinds, modern looks, and the Swiss workmanship.
BUT.....and there IS a but: if you need to grind enough coffee to make a POT of coffee, this is not the grinder for you. It produces only a relatively small amount of coffee even on the (longest) 20 second setting. This may have something to do with the type of coffee beans I use - Starbucks intensly dark French Roast. The grinder works well for me because I only grind enough coffee for one mug of cofffee at a time. I use a single cup Melitta coffee filter which sits on top of my mug. I am absolutely convinced that this method of brewing coffee produces the best tasting coffee. (Conventional or Keurig type coffee makers just don't get the water hot enough.)

Jon from Portland, OR– Verified Buyer

Great inexpensive conical burr grinder. Very fast, quiet, with a consistent grind for pour over & Aero Press. Very easy to clean, love the Glass collection Jar.
The only negative is the excess grounds left in the grinder after each grind. Since it is east to clean & I don't want old grounds mixed with new, I clean it each time. A thorough cleaning leaves up to a tablespoon of grounds cleaned out of the grinder after 1 use.

Quiet, consistent, no static

Aaron from Salmon, ID– Verified Buyer

While I don't have experience with the $200+ grinders out there, I can say that this is by far the quietest grinder I have ever heard. Compared to the other grinders I have used it also produces a much more consistent grind. The non-static glass grounds container might be my favorite feature. First of all the grounds come in through the top instead of the side, which eliminates mess at the grinder. Secondly anyone who has experienced a static charged plastic container that shoots grounds all over the kitchen will understand how obnoxious they can be. Not a problem with this container.

Oh yeah, and it looks pretty cool too.

Dian from Meriden, CT– Verified Buyer

The unit is compact but holds a nice reservoir of beans so I'm able to store what I need for a couple of days at a time. It's quieter than my old grinder (another brand). I found it easy to use. Simple to store and it looks attractive. I only use drip or espresso grind and both were to my taste. I am very pleased with the product.

The receptacle for the ground beans is glass so there's much less static and it's easier to clean. It disassembles easily.

Works well but PLAN AHEAD if you are brewing for more than two people at a time!

Courtney from Portland, OR– Verified Buyer

I am so enjoying the lack of sediment now that I have a consistent coarse grind for my French press coffee. Works well and is an attractive appliance and the bottom glass canister works very well- no static electricity and no grounds flying out. NOTE: directions specify to only grind 20 seconds at a time, then wait 5 minutes to avoid heat buildup that may damage grinder. This will be VERY ANNOYING if you are making coffee for more than 2 people at a time and forget to grind your coffee in batches ahead of time. Perhaps all burr grinders in this price range (inexpensive) are limited this way- worth checking out.

Well made burr coffee grinder that is super easy to operate.

Richard from Campbell, CA– Verified Buyer

At around $100 this grinder is unbeatable value and a great step up from blade grinders that typically pulverize the beans into a fine dust that is unsuitable for drip and french press coffee makers. There is virtually no spillage of coffee grounds and grounds do not remain stuck to the glass receptacle. Clever design keeps the glass receptacle in place even if you tip the grinder upside down during cleaning.

Pros: Excellent value

Great Grinder for the Price

Mark from Los Angeles, CA– Verified Buyer

I am really happy with this Grinder. I read many other reviews online and many have said this is a great bang for you buck and I cannot disagree. The grinder has a small footprint, and is not very tall, so it can fit under many counters. The grind is consistent and I use it primary for moka espresso.

The one downside is the instructions say to wait five minutes between 20 seconds grinds to let the motor cool. I could see how this could be an issue if you are making a large amount of coffee.
