About the Designer
Aldo Rossi Italy (1931 - )
Aldo Rossi is considered by many to be the greatest Italian architect of the second half of the 20th century. His life as an architect started with Gardella and Zanuso. An author of abstraction, reduction and brevitas, his severe language of primary shapes, geometrical patterns and silent evocation created some of the most intensely poetic works of architecture and design in his age. These exact characteristics exude from his products as well, utilizing geometrical shapes to make profound design statements. Rossi died in 1997. Continuing this legacy in the design and creation of the Il Conico water kettle, the piece itself is composed of a simple geometric shape, the cone with other small understated embellishments, such as the spherical knob on top. Although these are primary shapes, the piece is extremely distinguished and elegant. It is made from 18/10 mirror-polished stainless steel with a magnetic heat diffusing bottom for induction cooking.
The clean, geometric forms in Aldo Rossi's designs, a constant presence in many of his architectural designs, are transformed into real objects to be touched and used, becoming icons of the 1980s household landscape.
